Dundee - Natal History

The year 1982 will be a glorious occasion for the inhabitants of Dundee and it is my privilege to share in your joy in this way. Centenary celebrations are rare events which necessarily place the emphasis on that which is past. this brochure, which is of a mainly historical nature, endeavours to revive the history of Dundee.

Dundee is known for its interest in historical events and for the conservation of our historical heritage and its inhabitants can be justly proud of what has been achieved over the past hundred years. There are always lessons to be learnt from the rich treasures of history. President Paul Kruger’s advice to his contemporaries is likewise applicable to our generation: “Neem uit die verlede wat goed is en bou daarop die toekoms.”

Dundee stands at the threshold of a new century with new challenges. Its foundations have, however, been well laid and it can look to the future with faith and confidence. On behalf of all the inhabitants of Natal I wish to congratulate Dundee on attaining its hundredth anniversary and upon its achievements during this period. May the second century be a time of continued achievement and dedication which later generations will be proud of and thankful for
